Science has shown that spending 20 minutes in nature will lower levels of stress hormones like cortisol, boost your immune system, improve your sense of belonging, decrease pain, and so much more. All things that make life a lot better.
But what do you do when you’re out there, beside shuffle down streets like an extra in the Walking Dead? Here are a few ideas: 1) Have your favorite morning or evening beverage outside and just notice. Yup that’s it! Take in the sounds, the colors, and the unfolding season. Be present with the beauty around you. 2) Wander slowly around a green space, either your yard or a local park, and as you meander, offer gratitude. Give thanks for all the good in your life. For the people doing heroic things out in the world like delivering groceries and directly helping Covid-19 patients. Give thanks for the sun warming the Earth, the trees cleaning our air, and the water you drink. Don't be stingy with your appreciation! 3) Download the free iNaturalist app and snap some pics of your local flora and fauna. It’s a great citizen science project, bringing together data from nature lovers all around the globe, creating a collective map for the benefit of all. Remember to take your magic pill and get outside today. Please also report your findings! Tag me on social because I truly want to see how you’re connecting with this wonderful planet. |
